woodland Ramblings

On my walks with the dogs, I always come across  dead or fallen trees. I find the the decaying trunks of these trees interesting, because they can be the home of many things. Rabbits, moles, mice and a whole hodgepodge of insects.

Sometime if I am lucky, I'll stumble upon a stump like this one that has decayed  into an interesting shape, or a natural sculpture.   You could  even  consider them a nature's Rorschach test. What do you see when you look at this?
Hmmmm!  This log reminds me of the "Sorting hat from Harry Potter". I wonder how that would be interpreted, But I'll leave that up to you.

  2. i see the right side of a small dog laying down - the "hat" part being the top of the head, there's an eye and he has a pointed nose with arm stretched out forward... can you believe i still haven't seen harry potter? so, i can't respond to yours, ha ha.

  3. If I could have dragged this piece home to put in my garden, I would have :)

I also haven't seen any of the Harry Potter movies, so I can't comment on the similarity you saw. I see the potential to plant ferns and peace-in-the-home in the hollowed out bits.

  4. It looks EXACTLY like the sorting hat!!! I think you should send this pic to a few newspapers, I'd bet the woods would be flooded with people dressed in robes off to find out whether they're in Hufflepuff, Slytherin or the rest! Actually, on second thoughts, perhaps keep it to yourself....
